Dr. Matt Hirabayashi is a vision correction and cataract surgeon and a co-founder of NuVision in Amarillo. His passion for vision correction is rooted in the profound impact it has on overall quality of life. During medical school, his desire to help patients live fuller, more independent lives drew him to ophthalmology, a field where vision plays a role in nearly every moment, from time with family and work to hobbies and travel.
This commitment is not only professional, but deeply personal. In 2023, he experienced the transformative benefits of vision correction firsthand when he underwent EVO ICL surgery performed by his mentor, Dr. Greg Parkhurst. That experience further shaped his approach to patient care and reinforced his appreciation for the trust patients place in their surgeon.
Dr. Hirabayashi is dedicated to advancing vision correction surgery while placing a strong emphasis on the patient experience. He believes every patient deserves an individualized approach and should feel informed, confident, and comfortable throughout their vision correction journey.
“I’ve been through the vision correction journey myself and only wish I’d done it sooner. I had ICL surgery in 2023 and ‘life-changing’ doesn’t even begin to describe it.”
After graduating summa cum laude from Saint Louis University, Dr. Hirabayashi earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he became deeply involved in ophthalmology research. He completed his medical internship and ophthalmology residency training at the University of Missouri, and during his final year was elected Chief Resident. He then pursued a dedicated fellowship in San Antonio, Texas, focusing on the most advanced techniques in vision correction and modern cataract surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Greg Parkhurst, one of the most experienced surgeons in the country across the full spectrum of vision correction procedures. He performed thousands of these procedures to truly master them.
Dr. Hirabayashi later co-founded NuVision Amarillo with the goal of bringing the latest vision correction technologies and a patient-centered approach to the people of northwest Texas. In his free time, he enjoys flying and taking his dogs to the Texas Beaches.
