Cory Pickett, FNP-BC

Clinical Director

Clinical Leadership and Visionary Mission

With a career spanning more than a quarter-century, Cory serves as the Clinical Director of NuVision Amarillo. His role is defined by a rare combination of high-level clinical expertise and a deeply personal mission to provide visual freedom. As a board-certified professional through both the American Society of Ophthalmic Registered Nurses (ASORN) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), Cory oversees clinical operations with a focus on precision, safety, and the integration of emerging technologies.

A Foundation of Academic Excellence

Cory’s extensive academic background reflects a multidisciplinary approach to healthcare. He holds three bachelor’s degrees: Marketing from the University of Phoenix, Biology from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, and Nursing from Texas Woman’s University. He furthered his clinical education by earning a Master of Science in Nursing from Purdue University-Global, where his academic performance earned him induction into the Beta Epsilon Tri-Alpha Honor Society.

His commitment to specialized knowledge led him to pursue elite international training. Cory completed the Bay Area Ophthalmology Course at Stanford University and was awarded an international post-graduate diploma with the highest honors from Ulster University in Northern Ireland, where he received advanced training in cataract and refractive surgery under the mentorship of several of the most renowned authorities in the field worldwide.

The Catalyst: A Personal Journey into LASIK

Cory’s career trajectory was forever altered in the year 2000 when he underwent LASIK on his own eyes. The profound impact of the procedure—gaining immediate visual independence—inspired him to dedicate his life to helping others achieve the same. He began his professional journey under the mentorship of his own surgeon, Dr. James Lusk in Shreveport, LA—a pioneer who served as one of the original surgeons responsible for training others in the field after LASIK received FDA approval in 1997.

Cory believes that, alongside major milestones like marriage, the birth of a child, or purchasing a first home, the decision to undergo vision correction is one of the most significant moments in a person’s life. Because of this, he is deeply committed to helping each patient navigate that journey with confidence.

A Patient-Centered Philosophy

Patients consistently highlight the personalized attention Cory provides, frequently noting his dedication to thorough education and his unhurried approach. He ensures that every individual understands their specific condition and the technology available to treat it, never allowing a patient to feel rushed. His unique clinical style seamlessly blends high-level technical knowledge with genuine Southern hospitality and a touch of humor, creating an environment where patients feel both empowered and at ease. For Cory, the ultimate reward remains the one-day post-operative visit; seeing others achieve the same visual freedom he has enjoyed for over 25 years is a feeling that never gets old.

This personal commitment to technology has also become a family legacy: his wife and daughter have both undergone laser vision correction. His daughter, Emily, holds the distinction of being the first patient in the United States to receive the FDA-approved ray-tracing Wavelight Plus LASIK

“I had LASIK over 25 years ago and it changed my life so much, I switched careers! I’m so excited to be part of your vision correction journey and can’t wait to see how it changes your life for the better.”

Expert, Leader, Mentor.

Cory and his family have developed a deep love for the Texas Panhandle and are proud to call it home. He is excited to partner with one of the leading refractive surgery centers in the world to bring revolutionary new technology and techniques to the people of the area. Cory is also a charter member of the West Plains Lions Club and frequently volunteers his time to support local athletes, helping them gain visibility on social media and serving as a game-day scorer for MaxPreps. When his schedule permits, he enjoys spending quality time with his family, supporting local sports teams, and cheering on his home-state LSU Tigers.
